New York Schools Chief Advocates More ‘Balanced Literacy’ –

Balanced literacy may work for smart, motivated, well off students with parents who push them to read  challenging books at home.  It’s a disaster for the poor as studies outside of NYC have shown, especially in comparison to common knowledge type programs. 

It’s time we stop running schools for the poor and disadvantaged according to the ideals and methods of the schools for the wealthy and talented.
